The Experiences that make a Trip to Steamboat Exceptional
Make Memories
There are so many reasons why Steamboat Springs is a special place to visit compared to all the other mountain towns in Colorado. Steamboat Springs is one of the few places in Colorado that has maintained its Western culture while also developing into a ski resort town that is full of life year-round. Choosing to visit Steamboat is choosing to have one of the most unforgettable mountain vacations, especially if you plan exceptional activities that are unique to the mountains of Colorado and to Steamboat.
Here are just a few of the special experiences you can have during your vacation to Steamboat Springs. We highly recommend planning to invest your time into one (or all!) of these experiences to have a vacation in Steamboat Springs you and your loved ones will never forget!
Dog Sledding
We love racing through the mountains while taking in the views and the fresh mountain air. Usually, we do this on skis or snowboards, but, when we are looking for a special way to embrace the natural beauty around us we choose to go on a dog sledding tour. Hundreds of years ago people began using dogs to help with transportation in harsh winter climates. Nowadays dog sledding, or “mushing,” is purely recreational in Colorado. On a Steamboat dog sledding tour you will find yourself being pulled through miles of the expansive Yampa Valley by dogs that compete in the famous Iditarod race. This experience will give you insight into the way early settlers survived the harsh winters of Colorado.
Sleigh Rides
Racing through the mountains on a bluebird day is an incredible experience, and so is taking in the majestic alpenglow of the mountains while being whisked to a multi-course dinner at sunset. There are a few options for dinner sleigh rides in Steamboat that offer multiple cuisines as well as transportation options. Some may choose to ride in the warmth of a snowcat cabin, and others may choose an open horse-drawn carriage. Regardless of transportation options, be assured that you enjoy a gourmet meal and a magical evening in the mountains.
Rich Culture
Taking in the sounds of the mountains is a lovely way to get to know Steamboat Springs. While most of the sounds you’ll hear come in the form of rustling Aspen leaves or skiers making turns down the slopes, there are other musical notes beaming from the concert hall in Steamboat that deserves recognition. They come in the form of the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra, which performs three times a year for locals and tourists alike. If you are lucky enough to be in Steamboat for the Fall, Holiday, or Spring concerts you should put it on your do-not-miss list. If their concerts don’t fall in line with your travel plans, consider spending some time checking out the local arts scene by attending a show at The Chief Theater or stroll around town during a First Friday Art Walk. No matter what you choose to do, you will be pleasantly surprised by Steamboat’s rich art’s community.
Mountain Vistas
Mountain vistas are undoubtedly one of our favorite parts of spending time in the high alpine. There is nothing quite comparable to being up high and seeing a range of mountains from afar. Steamboat Springs has a unique opportunity to take in the mountain views from a hot air balloon ride. Imagine floating above the Yampa Valley with a glass of champagne in your hand surrounded by your loved ones. Hot air balloon rides are operated by certified pilots and local guides to ensure a safe and exceptional experience for all guests.
