Steamboat Springs Family-Friendly Dining Guide

Truffle Pig

Truffle Pig is the perfect restaurant for families that are staying near the Steamboat base area, seeking convenience, and an upscale meal. The restaurant is located at One Steamboat Place near the gondola and within a walking distance from many accommodations. A meal at Truffle Pig will be both satisfying for the adults who can choose from entrees like Wild Mushroom Risotto or Kobe Beef Bolognese and the kids who can order off a “Piglets” menu with pastas or even a grilled mini steak. Parents will also be happy to know that most kids meals are served with a side of vegetables or fruit rather than french fries.

Mazzola’s Italian Restaurant

Mazzola’s Italian Restaurant is your classic family Italian restaurant serving up homestyle Italian foods in heaping portions. This is the place to be when you are looking for that perfect comfort meal. The best part? They serve family-style portions that include an appetizer and an entree for only $65 for 4 people. If sharing one entree isn’t your family’s style, have no fear. Mazzola’s offers a kid’s menu featuring pizza, pastas, salad, and a classic chicken or steak dinner. Everyone knows that Italian’s are focused on family, so it is no surprise that an Italian restaurant would make it on this list.

Backdoor Grill

Backdoor Grill is the place to be for a family looking for a filling and fun well-priced meal. This restaurant is elevated pub food with a massive burger menu that includes the option to customize with toppings like jalapeno jelly, peanut butter, or even a hashbrown. This menu is so fun that you may even find yourself indulging in a hamburger with a glazed donut for a bun. Kids will love their kid’s menu with classic items like corn dogs and cheeseburgers. Parents beware, many options on this menu don’t include vegetables unless they are deep-fried, so if you are trying to get your children to eat their first salads this probably isn’t your restaurant. But if you are looking for a fun experience and a well-priced meal, this is definitely your restaurant. A local’s tip is to try to eat during Happy Hour (3:30 PM – 5:30 PM or all day during Football Games) if you can for additional savings.

Freshies

Freshies is a local’s favorite and have a variety of options for adults and the classic fare for kids on a well-priced kid’s menu. For adults, you have your pick of several different salads, burgers, sandwiches, and tacos. Kids will be familiar with the menu, as it offers the typical selection like chicken tenders, a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, or grilled cheese. This restaurant is an easy choice for families with picky eaters who just need something basic and easy. Beware if you visit Freshies for breakfast, they serve up giant homemade Cinnamon Rolls smothered in cream cheese frosting, an item that will certainly tempt everyone in the family! Another local’s tip – this place is notorious for long wait times for tables so plan ahead and reserve a place in line on their website.

A few final local’s tips

There are a few things to remember about dining in Steamboat. The first is that this is a resort town that sees a lot of traffic during the busy season. That being said, it is a very good idea to make reservations if you have a large family or inpatient children, especially if you are visiting during the holidays. The second and final piece of advice is that parking can be challenging downtown where most of the restaurants are located. We highly recommend utilizing the local free bus to get around town in the evenings.

Bon appetit!
